A powerful explosion rocked the Chinese club here on Saturday morning, which severely injured six persons including four foreigners, police told this scribe.

According to details, Chinese club/restaurant located in Street 34, Sector F-7/1, Nazimuddin Road caught fire in minutes due to gas leakage in air-conditioned compressor, which badly destroyed the structure of club and furniture besides damaging other valuables.

The explosion was heard in other sectors of Islamabad and panic gripped the residents after the life attempt on Prime Minister-designate Shaukat Aziz a day earlier.

Besides damaging the club infrastructure, heavy blast shattered the windowpanes of the nearby buildings and houses located at the backside of Saudi-Pak Tower, police said.

Heavy police contingent reached at the spot soon after the blast and sealed the area for investigation.

Those who injured severely include - Ahmed and Munawwar Shah (waiters) belongs to AJK, Baboosh from China (receptionist), Ali and Abu Bakkar from Tanzania, Esa and Estra Kenya nationals.

The injured were immediately rushed to the PIMS and Polyclinic hospitals and their condition is stated to be out of danger.
